Reynell to William [?], London, 1861 Apr. 4 [3 p.]--Corrects some facts regarding Lamb's connection with a compilation called Classic tales and offers some editorial advice. [3] Charles Ryle to J.B. Payne, London, 1866 Sept. 28 [2 p.]--Acknowledges receipt of three inquiries, but regrets that he has little to offer beyond personal recollections of Lamb. [4] Theodore Martin to W.C. Hazlitt, London, 1866 Nov. 20 [2 p.]--Informs Hazlitt, who is compiling a complete edition of Charles Lamb's works, of the Lamb material in his possession. He also transcribes a "Dramatic Fragment" of Lamb's. [5] F.S. Cary to Bateman, Dorking, 1878 Dec. 7 [2 p.]--Discusses portraits of Charles and Mary Lamb painted by Cary in the 1830's. [7] Mary Shelley to John Howard Payne, Sussex, 1827 Aug. 22 [3 p.]--A despondent letter in which she broods over evils past and future, and mentions Lamb's difficulties with the farce he is writing. [8] Mary Shelley to Mary Lamb, Kentish Town, 1827 July 22 [3 p.]--Regrets that she will not be able to call on the Lambs and mentions that her"pecuniary problems are over--as I am promised a regular tho' small income from my father-in-law." [10] William Hone to John Scott, Peckham Rye Common, 1834 Feb. 6 [4 p.]--Relating largely to his financial difficulties and his application to the Literary Fund Society for a pension. He writes that "Lamb is the only man who knows me intimately--all my other intimacies have been with books--but I fear from Miss Lamb's illness, which is of a very peculiar nature, he may be ill himself, and though I have written to him at Enfield it is just possible that I may not hear back from him in answer."
